Testimonials

I have been struggling to walk without a limp and to tackle stairs following a full thickness tear of my patellar ligament in 2017 which was reconstructed nearly a year later. Despite another eighteen months of physiotherapy I had reached a point where it seemed I would have to live with this minor disability. Simeon was recommended by a friend but I was skeptical as to what he could do for me. My skepticism was entirely unfounded and after the first session, with very specific follow-up exercises, the improvement was marked and I have continued to show significant progress after my second appointment. Thank you Simeon, your breath of knowledge of how the human body works is amazing and I look forward to being able to walk properly again soon, with your expert help.

Simeon gave me a great introduction to foundation training and helped me apply exercises that helped with areas I’m struggling in with my dressage training. Simeon has a great amount of enthusiasm and knowledge in foundation training and applying it to not only help with usual problems like soreness in my upper back and shoulders but it also massively helped with my core strength and flexibility in my riding. I would thoroughly recommend!

Whilst attending a course at Higher Bickington Community Centre, Simeon came to my aid. I was in agony from what I believed to be a hip issue. Simeon could not have been more accommodating or professional. He asked very pertinent questions and after careful diagnostic movements, accurately diagnosed my issue and then explained in layman’s terms what was going on. Remedial exercises both demonstrated and tried out to ensure I was applying the correct stretch. Straight away I felt easing/relief of pain. My advice, if you think you have hip issues or any kind of muscular pain issues, go and see Simeon. I have avoided the doctors and needlessly using painkillers. Can’t thank you enough Simeon.

About

My Journey to becoming a Chiropractor :

Being a physically active person, I always wanted to work in an active job working with people and helping them to be healthy. I explored different routes in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, and Chiropractic; my decision to pursue Chiropractic was made by carefully researching and receiving treatment from these different professions/techniques to find the methods I considered to be most consistent and effective. I went on to train and graduate with a First Class Masters degree from McTimoney College of Chiropractic, in the UK.

Upright Postures Clinic

Previous Employment to present:

After finishing my placement in the Student clinic at McTimoney College, I travelled for a few months before moving back to North Devon, where I was employed full time in a Chiropractic clinic in Braunton for a couple of years. I have since become self-employed and am working from several locations.

Setting Up my Own Clinic:

The reason for setting up on my own is because in order to truly help you it takes time to understand you i.e. how you use your body on a daily basis etc. Being self-employed enables me to provide you the time that you need to thoroughly work with you on your journey to achieving your goals, whether they be to simply help you through a recent episode of back pain or in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle

Upright Postures Chiropractic Clinic

My Commitment:

I am committed, if you seek my help, to helping you find the reason behind your pain and re-discover your foundation upon core elements of movement and posture, with a healthy nervous system, to re-establish a firm grounding from which you can move forwards on a healthy path away from chronic pain and the potent reminder of acute pain.

Techniques

I currently practice as a Manual Therapist, formerly registered with the General Chiropractic Council. This means I cannot call myself a Chiropractor, nor claim to practice Chiropractic. However, I remain fully licensed and insured to practice all techniques mastered at Chiropractic college. The decision to deregister was made because my scope of practice exceeds the boundaries and public perceptions of the Chiropractic profession.

What is NIP?

NIP is a unique neurological examination protocol that very precisely assesses any joint, muscle, or sensory tissue in the body. The assessment will determine how well the brain is receiving and interpreting signals (sensory information) from the body.

Find out more on the official NIP website.

Why do I need NIP?

With various life stresses the brain can become sensory overloaded and send the wrong signals back to the joints or muscles etc. Different types of stress that could induce this include: physical (day to day posture, accidents/traumas, sports injuries or overexertion etc), chemical (things we eat and drink too much of or that we’re intolerant to), and emotional stresses (family, financial, or other worries). Sensory overload puts pressure on the nervous system, weakening it, thus exposing the body to injury and pain.

How can this technique help me?

The NIP technique very effectively and gently resets the nervous system, which will increase the health of the whole body, and structurally will maintain optimum joint and muscle movement, helping to increase strength and quality of life, predict and prevent injury, and reduce overall tension. This gentle technique is effective for helping all age groups, and was initially designed for infants and children.

What should I expect?

The correction (adjustment/treatment) using NIP is very simple and gentle, nothing is forcedNo “cracking and crunching” techniques are usedThe NIP has demonstrated that the common locations of stiffness and pain in the neck and lower back are often a compensation pattern, not necessarily the cause of the presenting restrictions.

 Adjunctive Therapies:

To compliment the NIP I use Myofascial Release (MFR), involving gentle sustained pressure in a particular problem areaYour body is made up of fascia from top to toe, inside and out, down to the smallest cell structure; when our stress response is activated in our bodies it causes the body to lay down more fascial fibres, creating restriction/stiffness. In todays society the majority of people are surviving on their own stress response, and as a result their joints and soft tissues will become increasingly stiff. Yocan help yourself with healthy physical movements, but you also need to calm and reset the nervous system, which NIP is designed for.

In addition to the manual techniques that I useI compliment my work with an exercise technique called “Foundation Training” (FT) designed by Dr Eric Goodman in the USA. It’s a system of posture exercises designed to integrate proper movement along the muscle chains of the body that run from top to toe. Integration with FT empowers you with a strong upright posture, restoring the muscles to their designed length and position. FT also works to prevent injury and increase athletic performance, and will resolve many pain issues by restoring balance to the body and decompressing the spine. It is an incredible technique used by a number of the top athletes and coaches around the world.
